Forrest en zijn vrouw Harriet op de militaria beurs in Ciney (B). Forrest signeerde het boek dat Michel Detrez over hem heeft geschreven. Forrest was een speciaal persoon in Easy Company. Hij was de wapenmaker van de compagnie en slaagde erin om de M1 Garand om te bouwen tot een vol-automaat. Hij paste niet alleen wapens aan, maar ook zijn uniform; zie de details in het boek. Forrest was vanaf het begin bij Easy company en de enige gewonde van de compagnie tijdens de sprong bij Son (Market Garden) door een defect aan zijn parachute. In februari 1945 was hij de eerste van de compagnie die heelhuids terugkeerde naar de USA dankzij het feit dat hij letterlijk het winnende lot in een loterij trok.

He was the armourer of the company and managed to alter the M1 Garand in a fully automatic rifle. He not only altered weapons but also his uniform; see details in his book. Forrest was in Easy company from the beginning and was the only casualty of the company in the Holland drop due to a malfunction of his parachute. In February 1945 he was the first of the company to go back to the USA safe and sound thanks to winning the drawing in a lottery.
