US Signal Corps photographer, Tech/5 George R. Jones, landed with the 101st and took pictures of the men of the 506th assembling at the edge of the Zonsche Forest. Behind Crawford a man with a SCR-1000 radio.
Shortly after the first picture was taken, the same group was pictured lying behind a farm hedge. Crawford is standing, while another trooper seems to get access to the radio. The other people are locals, totally surprised by the presence of the paratroopers, but unaware of the danger.
Picture taken at the farm of the Merks family. Robert Watts was MIA on April 13th 1945 in Belgium. His name is mentioned at Margraten Cemetery on the wall of missed in action soldiers.
This picture was taken by Flight Officer Bill Westcott of the 81st Squadron. Here men of the 2nd Battalion of the 506th are dropped on DZ "B".

Two gliders collided in mid-air and crashed on the landing zone while men of the 506th were still moving off the DZ. Many of them came in to rescue the glidermen. In this picture we see S/Sgt Crawford and Pvt.Spiewak, both of 506th HQ, Cpt. Tilden McGee (the Protestant Chaplain of the 506th) and Cpt. Clovis Y. Tollet of the 506th 1st battalion.

Sgt. David M. Rogers of 506th HQ told me he remembers being a few hundred meters from the crash site.
