De eerste kennismaking met de "Band of Brothers Tours" was in 2002. Met Steph Leenhouwers, een persoonlijke vriend van vele Easy Company veteranen, hadden wij de afspraak gemaakt om de bus met toeristen te begeleiden naar het kerkhof van Margraten. Ook zouden wij elkaar weer ontmoeten in de bossen bij Foy, waar in 1944 zo hevig is gevochten tijdens de Battle of the Bulge. Uiteraard alles in stijl.
De toeristen van deze tour hadden Bill Guarnere en Edward "Babe" Heffron als gids. In Margraten werd ons gevraagd om beiden in de jeeps op deze heilige grond te brengen zodat zij de trappen niet hoefden te beklimmen. Normaal gesproken is het kerkhof verboden voor voertuigen.

In Foy wachtten we de bus met toeristen op en verwelkomden ze met een salvo uit de .30 mitrailleur op de jeep. Ik bracht Bill met de jeep weer terug dwars door het bos, takken en stronken ontwijkend. Zo'n rit had hij de laatste 59 jaar niet meer gehad. Bill en Babe wezen de plek aan waar zij destijds in 1944 dekking zochten in hun schuttersputten.

Tenslotte zagen we elkaar weer in Rachamps, waar een herdenking plaatsvond in de kerk en een boom werd geplant midden in het dorp ter nagedachtenis aan de gevechten en de bevrijding in 1944.

The first time we got acquainted with the "Band of Brothers Tours" was in 2002. We made an appointment with Steph Leenhouwers, a personal friend of many Easy Company veteran. We would escort the bus - with Steph as the driver - to Margraten cemetery. We also would meet again in the Bois Jacques where heavy fighting was going on in 1944 during the Bulge. Of course all in style ... The tourists of this trip were guided by Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron. The director of the Margraten cemetery asked us to bring both veterans to the Holy Ground in our jeeps so they didn't have to climb the stairs. Normally the gound is off limits for vehicles, so this was a very special occasion.

In Foy we welcomed the Tour with a burst from the Browning .30 cal. MG on the jeep. I brought Bill back to the bus in my jeep. A rough ride while evading branches, tree trunks and foxholes. I think that this was his roughest ride since 1944. Bill and Babe showed us the exact location of the foxholes where they took cover in 1944.

Later that day we met again in Rachamps where ceremonies were held in the church and the centre of the village.
